we stopped in a town south and west of the 'metro' area, and ate at a hotel. the food was great, i had a pretty darn good reuben and a bowl of outstanding soup.ben left here, to go to a family reunion. i was going to take it up the river a bit further with everyone else, then go back down to the starting point. things didn't work that way.
not sure exactly how all this happened, but we went down the ramp. i swung downstream to get out of everyone's way, and because there were more crafts upstream. there was a sevtec just sitting in the water, spinning around and around until i thought he'd puke in there. he wasn't moving forward at all, just spinning. anyway, i did a couple separate 360's, just because it's fun. then i went upstream about a half mile with most of the others, and did another. this time, the back of the craft dug into the water, and water came up through the thrust duct. the propellor broke against that water, and lots of the water stayed in the craft.
i was, of course, stranded there. luckily, i wasn't the last person in the group. i don't even remember who now, but they came by, saw there were probles, and went ahead to get everyone. i discovered that i could bail water out with the battery cover, so i did that while some enterprising person with a camera recorded this wonderful moment for posterity. we got the thing back up onto the boat landing, and i rode back with someone else to get the car.
i was amazed that we'd covered that much distance. without traffic congestion, it took an hour to go from the starting point to the landing where the craft was, and back. and that was with a fairly straightforward, mostly divided highway route. i took everything back to the weber's hotel, and gave them the prop to fix. they have a pretty complex arrangement for a prop, and it's partially made of styrofoam. i'm not about to tackle that, especially on someone else's craft. they've already finished it, and i thought the bill was quite small.
notice that the blades of the propellor are made out of the blue styrofoam (now they use 3" yellow) that they use for insulation. you can see that the yellow side is mostly whole, with some pretty nasty tip damage. that's pretty much what the other blade looked like before. the blue side lost the entire layer of fiberglass, which is what provides the strength, over the 'front' of the prop. that blade could be pushed forward very easily, inches with just a finger. the other side was still pretty solid.
....anyway, this is the ups and downs of my life.
